ABOUT ICE Natural Disaster Data Alerts

Respond better to natural disasters by determining which properties may have been impacted

When a natural disaster strikes, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) declares the impacted region a disaster area using county boundary designations. However, natural disasters do not always affect all properties within those boundaries. Our Natural Disaster Alerts help pinpoint the specific properties that may have been impacted when a natural disaster strikes.

Our property-specific disaster data alerts cover the majority of declared disasters, including:

  • Hurricanes
  • Earthquakes
  • Wildfires
  • Volcanic eruptions
  • Tornadoes
  • Floods
  • Storm surges
  • Tsunamis

We identify impacted properties at a parcel/address level by gathering and analyzing natural disaster data and images from a variety of sources, including weather services, FEMA and satellite imagery. Using the data, we map the impacted areas, determine the event’s core and then identify the properties that are most likely impacted. This method also enables us to identify the properties located within a buffer zone surrounding the core event but may not be impacted.

We continually update the natural disaster data and provide it to you in near-real-time as the disaster unfolds. This helps you to monitor properties as conditions change, for example during wildfires, hurricanes and floods.

How you can use Natural Disaster Data Alerts

For lenders

Identify properties in the origination process that may have been impacted by the disaster; determine if an inspection of the property or a new appraisal is necessary under GSE requirements; identify which loans in the pipeline may not be able to close.

For servicers

Prioritize property inspections based on location to the disaster’s core and buffer zone; assess portfolio impact; help accelerate regulatory compliance response and expedite mortgage assistance to homeowners.

For investors

Quickly assess portfolio impact based on data matched with valuations.

For appraisal management companies

Pinpoint properties in the areas of impact where appraisal workflow has already started.

For mortgage insurance companies

Expedite the process of identifying impacted properties to help with cost savings

Government Agencies

Accelerate the process of identifying and assessing impacted properties that have loans backed by GSEs.
